About Miles for Merry Miracles
Miles for Merry Miracles (M4MM) is a youth-driven, non-profit organization based out of Southern Indiana. We partner with the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program to provide a Christmas to children in need. M4MM got its start as an Eagle Scout Project organized by Nick Hebert in 2008. Nick was so motivated by the service he provided that he decided to do it again the following year, and then the following year too. To date, M4MM has served over 2500 children in the local area and has been recognized twice by the D.C Based Jefferson Awards program and once by WLKY as a Bell recipient. Now in our minth year, our goal for 2016 is to help an additional 300 Angels and expand into surrounding counties of Southern Indiana.
M4MM is proud to be a youth-led organization. Our Youth Board consists of high school and middle school students throughout the New Albany-Floyd County School Corporation, West Clark School Corporation, North Harrison School Corporation and Greater Clark School Corporation. These young men and women participate in every aspect of M4MM, from the Board meetings, to fundraising, marketing, finance and interviews with the local media. With the help of adult mentors, the youth board defines the goals of M4MM and develops a plan to make a positive change on society. The Adult Mentors guide them along the way.
The Miles for Merry Miracles program hosts an online adoption program that allows participants to provide Angel Tree Children in need with Christmas gifts and food during the holiday season. This food is a valued gift to the families during this time when most children are out of school. Participants register online at m4mm.org for the organizations 5k Community Fun Run Walk and instead of paying a registration fee they commit to sponsor an Angel Tree Child(ren). Participants choose an “angel” in need to adopt by selecting gender and age category. The site then emails the donor the adoptees first name, secure Angel Tree code along with sizes and categories, and information about where to participate in the program’s run, shopping day and holiday celebration events.
"One of our goals is to help more individuals in the Southern Indiana area embrace a Physically Fit, Fiscally Fit and Spiritually Fit lifestyle and to achieve a goal of sponsoring 300 Angel Tree Children in our community this holiday season”, said Sophia Palmer, serving her second term as M4MM Youth Organizational Director. “In doing so, the Miles for Merry Miracles Youth Leadership Team would like to announce the dates for the 2016 Miles for Merry Miracles Triple Crown of Service Program."
